  1. This is release 2.5.2 of Excalibur. 8/8/98

  3. Excalibur is a freeware spelling checker that is also LaTeX aware.
  4.  
  5. Features include:
  6.  
  7. - Excalibur will offer suggestions for how to correct a word.
  8.  
  9. - Excalibur can spell check the clipboard. This makes it a good spelling checker for any text based application such as Alpha or SimpleText.
  10.  
  11. - Excalibur also works with Eudora, BBEdit, MT NewsWatcher, ClarisWorks, WordPerfect, and any other program that supports Word Services.
  12.  
  13. - You can teach it about new LaTeX commands and environments that you define.
  14.  
  15. - You can create your own dictionaries.
  16.  
  17. - Works on any plain TEXT file.  (type TEXT)
  18.  
  19. - Works on formatted files via Word Services.
  20.  
  21. - You will need System 6.0.5 or higher to run Excalibur.  It will run on any Macintosh from a Mac Plus on up.

  23. - If you are running System 7 or greater, there is balloon help.

  25. - British, Catalan, Dutch, French, German, Italian, Norwegian and Spanish dictionaries are also available.  You can get these from ftp.eg.bucknell.edu in pub/mac/Excalibur-dictionaries.

  27. - It runs in native mode on a PowerPC.  This is a fat binary.

  41. Bugs fixed:
  42.  
  43. Fixed Excalibur's handling of Word Services.  It works much better with most applications now.  In particular, you don't lose formatting with ClarisWorks and WordPerfect.

  45. Excalibur knows about ¥tabularnewline, ¥r (ring accent), ¥SS (capital ¥ss, ¥k (ogonek accent), ¥DH (eth), ¥DJ (dbar), ¥NG (eng), ¥TH (thorn) and their lower case equivalents.

  47. Zap null characters if they're present in a file.  This prevents parsing errors that sometimes occurred.

  49. Double clicking on a misspelled word should copy it into the Change To: box.  When the word was at the beginning of a line, this did not always work.  It does now.

  51. Fixed some internal workings that are not presently a problem, but might cause problems in future versions of the operating system.

  53. Fixed a bug that could have caused an occasional crash while saving commands.  (No crash was ever reported.)

  55. Updated the popup menu that appears in the Save dialog when performing dictionary to text conversions.

  57. Fixed a cosmetic problem related to window shading.

  59. Fixed a bug that prevented Excalibur from adding certain dictionary names to the Dictionary menu properly.

  61. Many other minor changes.
